Walking into any store in Knoxville or Powell will definitely tell you that Christmas time is just around the corner. It sometimes is hard to start listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but my two daughters are starting to make requests.
Beyond being a busy time for families, this can be a busy time of year for My Family Dentistry. Many people look to finish or start dental work before the new-year. There are a couple of reasons why this is the case, and why you might want to consider calling our office now to start some dental treatment before the end of the year.
First, dental insurance is different than medical insurance. Most dental insurance resets itself at the beginning of the calendar year. For example, let’s take a plan that has an average of $1000 dollars to spend per year. Most regular dental exams are covered close to 100%, but that comes doesn’t come close to spending your full $1,000 of annual dental benefits. If you think you need dental work and you haven’t spent your full dental insurance benefit amount, get it done now so you don’t miss out on maximizing those dental benefits. Check with your dental insurance provider if you don’t know the details of your plan.
Secondly, dental care is a part of health care, which can be deductable on your taxes. And so sometimes you can use dental treatment to lower your taxes. Remember to always consult with your tax specialist or accountant if you’re unsure of the write-off status of any healthcare procedure, but this can be a great way to save money and have a more beautiful smile at the same time.
Lastly, some companies set aside money each year to be deposited tax free into a Health Savings Account (HSA) for medical and dental issues. This money can be lost if not used. If you have one of these accounts and you need dental care, we can help you find ways to optimize your plan so as not to lose this money.
If you need any help at all, please call our office in Powell, TN to schedule a consultation or your next visit so we can help you optimize your benefits.
