Working with my hands did not start with dentistry.  It started at a very young age working with my dad around hammers, nails and saws. He not only instilled in me a Christian heritage but a love to build things.  I consider my dad the master of wood.  I love my dad for this great heritage.  My mom told my wife before we married that I would always be into many different projects.  Moms are always right!

You see,  growing up I loved working with my hands and creating things, but I also loved science.  Dentistry was the perfect blend of science and a hands on profession that allows me to create things for people to love and use every day.  Dentistry requires that hand eye coordination and precise work that my father has taught me over the years when working with wood.

My wood projects currently have been plentiful.  In 2012 I took a picture out of Pottery Barn and built my daughters some toy cabinets.  My wife loves them because they look pretty and they keep our playroom clean.  I also completed a tool 12-16 foot tool shed last year.  It was a fun project because I got to do some framing and I love to use the big pneumatic nail gun.  For Christmas this year I built my mom and dad a four star chicken coup.  I built the coop in my driveway took it down and reassembled with a little help from my brother and brother-in-law for a Christmas Day surprise in my parents backyard.  Dad said it may be the best Christmas gift he has ever received.  I also made some sweet one of kind barn wood frames for a project my wife has been working on.

Well, I must be on to the next project.  As a dentist I am thankful for my Dad and him teaching me to work with my hands and create something.  As a person I am thankful because America was built on people creating things.  Thank you Dad, I love you!
