The Museum of Appalachia’s July 4th Celebration & Anvil Shoot
At the Museum of Appalachia, members gain free access to an all day celebration held on July 4th. At 2 p.m. over 10,000 bells will be rung, in unison, across the country to celebrate the holiday.
At the museum’s bell ringing ceremony, 13 children will be chosen to ring the bell and be a part of history. Afterwards, families can wander through the village to see demonstrations that include “Betsy Ross” sewing our nation’s first flag.
Throughout the day, an Anvil Shoot will be held to honor the tradition that has lasted for over 100 years. The blast is said to be heard from up to 15 miles away and is followed by musicians performing old-time mountain music. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 4th. Non-members can check admission prices here.
