The past year has likely been filled with changes, celebrations, and important milestones in your life. As you spend time with your loved ones, it may be the best time to count your blessings and consider making the holidays a little brighter for someone less fortunate. It’s the season for giving as well as getting, so when you’re shopping for great presents, consider giving a donation of dental care to those who need it most.
Charity Donations
Gifting during Christmas is a time-honored tradition and no one should miss out due to their circumstances. The American Dental Association works with several charities to provide education and care, both nationally and internationally. This is a season that can be hard on wallets, but especially so for those who can’t receive the care they need. If you’re able, think about sending a donation to any of the following:
Give Kids a Smile – has provided free pediatric dental care and oral health services to over 5 million children since its founding in 2003.
Dental Lifeline Network – this organization facilitates donated dental and orthodontic services, house calls, and outreach for disadvantaged people across the US.
Health Volunteers Overseas – their oral health program helps people get dental care in places like Cambodia, Kenya, Nicaragua, Tanzania, and Nepal.
Remember: not all gifts need to be monetary for you to make a difference in someone’s life. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and other basic dental hygiene products are also sorely needed at shelters and other organizations that provide help to the vulnerable, poor, and homeless. You can drop off sealed packages of the above to your local donation center or put together dental care packages to be distributed to people who can’t afford them on their own. It’s an easy, practical way to demonstrate kindness this season.
Start at Home
At My Family Dentistry, we believe that compassion and generosity are a vital component of patient care. Dr. Mullins has extended that philosophy not just to those he treats at our office in Powell, TN, but to people in nearby communities who don’t have access to dental care or can’t afford regular check-ups. He regularly volunteers his services to clinics in rural areas of Knox and Anderson counties. By helping people in these underserved areas, he is able to extend the gift of oral health to our neighbors. Though you might not have the same training and professional knowledge to help those in your community in the same way, you can still begin by donating to local charities. Also consider buying a My Family Dentistry gift card for a friend or family member who may need to see dentist and hasn’t been able to go recently.
We’re committed to helping you reach your dental goals and improve your oral health through this year into the next. Learn more about our staff and read customer testimonials about our high quality care.
