Enjoy These Knoxville Events Before the New School Year

Enjoy-these-Knoxville-Events-Before-the-New-School-Year

As many parents know all too well, the last days of summer break are ticking down for your kids, and the new school year is looming (or already begun, for some). Fear not! Knoxville has plenty of events lined up to help keep your kids active and happy during their last few days of freedom.

Many of these events are free, and all will help keep your children distracted from the dread of another year at school. We’ve listed five of Knoxville’s best end-of-summer events for you here, but if you’d like a complete list, be sure to check out Knoxville’s official calendar.

The Market Square Farmers Market

The Market Square Farmers Market reopened in earlier this year and will continue to pop up every Wednesday and Saturday until November 13th. For the full experience, we recommend that you go on a Saturday between 9:00 and 2:00, and be sure to bring the whole family.

Not only can you buy your week’s produce at the Farmer’s Market, all in-season and locally grown, but your children will also enjoy festive stalls selling cookies, muffins, homemade candy, fresh lemonade, and arts and crafts. With guitar-plucking street musicians at every corner and an array of local food trucks serving up breakfast and lunch, the Farmers Market is a weekend routine that the whole family can enjoy.

Story Thyme in the Garden

Hosted at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum, Story Thyme in the Garden provides great fun for your pre-school aged children. With crafts and playtime both on offer, Story Thyme gives young children a chance to explore nature and learn about the plant life around them. Story Thyme happens every Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30. Be sure to check it out!

Second Sunday Art Activity Day

If you or your family have never been to the Knoxville Museum of Art, August 14th will be a great day to go. With the museum completely free for the public and free arts and crafts available for children, Art Activity Day is a great way to introduce your children to the world of art, stimulate their imaginations, and get them working on their own creations.

Knoxville Food Tours

For older children, a Knoxville Food Tour makes for a great weekend outing with the family. Take a tour of historic scenic Knoxville and try the city’s eclectic selection of foods over the span of a few hours. Taking place weekly from 9:30 to noon, these tours are a fun and adventurous way to get children out of the house for a day of culinary exploration and fascinating Knoxville history.

Knoxville Children’s Theater

From August 19th through September 4th, the Knoxville Children’s Theater will be presenting The Three Musketeers, a family-friendly adaptation of the thrilling story by Alexandre Dumas. Featuring young actors between the ages of 12 and 17, performances are created to appeal specifically to children. More upcoming shows can be found on their event calendar.

We encourage you to check out these activities soon, but if you can’t make it, don’t worry. Many of these events continue well past the school year as well! With so many free and affordable programs on offer, Knoxville certainly makes it easy to stay engaged in the community and make great memories with your children.
