Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are used to treat a small hole or cavity in the tooth. To repair your tooth, we remove the decay and fill the area with a filling.
At My Family Dentistry we strive to provide every patient with a pain-free, comfortable experience in a relaxing spa-like environment.

What are the Different Types of Dental Fillings?
Dental filling materials include:
- Gold.
- Porcelain.
- Silver amalgam (contains mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc, and copper).
- Tooth-colored, plastic and glass materials called composite resin fillings.
The location and extent of the decay and our assessment of your dental health will help Dr. Mullins and Dr. Owen determine the type of filling that will best address your individual needs.
What to Expect When Receiving a Dental Filling?
Dr. Mullins or Dr. Owen will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. Next, a drill, air abrasion instrument, or laser will be used to remove the decayed area of the tooth. Once the decay has been removed, your dentist will prepare the space for the filling by cleaning the cavity of bacteria and debris. After the filling is in, we will finish by polishing it.
At My Family Dentistry we strive to make sure our patients experience is as pain-free and comfortable as possible, which is why we use state-of-the-art equipment and technology to give our patients the best dental experience.
How Do I Care for My Teeth With Fillings?
To maintain your fillings, you should continue following a good oral hygiene routine. Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings, brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and using an antibacterial mouthwash at least once daily.
If your tooth becomes very sensitive, if you feel a sharp edge, if you notice a crack in the filling, or if a piece of the filling is missing, call us at My Family Dentistry to make an appointment.
