Dr. Mullins’s 2013 Speaking Engagements Focus on Implants and Restorations

Implants and Restorations

In addition to providing the highest level of dental care, My Family Dentistry’s Dr. Wesley Mullins is focused on continuing education for himself and other dentists. As an educator, he regularly speaks to groups of dentists, dental students, and dental care professionals to help them improve their skills, services, and patient care.

Implants and Restorations are this year’s main focus of speaking engagements for Dr. Wesley Mullins.

Zirconia Dental Restorations

Dr. Mullins just returned from a trip to Duluth, Minnesota, where he gave a talk called “Treating the Edentulous Ridge with Zirconium Hybrids.” He also spoke to a group in OshKosh, Wisconsin on September 27th on the same topic.

For the layperson, Dr. Mullins was speaking about a new kind of dental restoration using a strong, natural-looking material called zirconia. Similar to ceramic, zirconia is inert and “biocompatible,” meaning that the body easily accepts it as a replacement. It is also naturally white, making it ideal for dental work. Though long in use in orthopedic surgery, zirconia is new to dentistry, and promises to one day replace hybrid restorations constructed from acrylic over metal substructures.  In these talks, dentists who perform restorations learned the step-by-step process of full-contour zirconia hybrid restorations, as well as how to avoid the pitfalls of placing implants for hybrid restorations.

Expanding Dental Implant Capabilities

Next, Dr. Mullins will head to Lexington, Kentucky on October 21st, where he’ll be speaking about dental implants. Today more than ever, the entire dental team needs to understand the dental implant options available to patients. This talk will be geared toward dentists who currently only offer single-implant restorations and are not fully confident about the options available to patients who need multiple implants. Dr. Mullins will discuss methods that dentists can implement immediately to properly plan for implants and discuss implant strategy with patients. He’ll be giving the same talk on December 5th to a group in Columbus, Indiana.

Intro to Dental Implants

Also, on November 1st and 2nd, Dr. Mullins will be giving a hands-on course in Marshfield, Wisconsin called “Implant 101 – Placing Your 1st Dental Implant.” Educating new dentists in this important service will mean that thousands of people all over the country will one day have access to dental implants. Dental implants are an important procedure that can dramatically improve oral health in people who are suffering from the loss of one or more teeth, or have damaged teeth.

It’s important to Dr. Mullins to pursue opportunities to improve dental care and patient outcomes for patients of My Family Dentistry as well as the patients of dentists all over the country through his speaking engagements.
