Best for Bikers – Time Warp Tea Room
Actually, that’s just a joke. By not pandering to anyone, the Time Warp Tea Room appeals to everyone. Where else can you examine an intact 1941 Indian Scout while sipping on an expertly made latte? Vintage motorcycle décor, classic films on the big screen, deep wooden booths, and the popular chili-tamale combo add to the appeal. Best Vibe – Old City Java

Best Coffee at Brunch – Cosmo’s Caffe at Gourmet’s Market
Gourmet’s Market is a Knoxville institution, and where else can you buy brunch, bulk gourmet coffee, specialty charcuterie, and Le Creuset bakeware all in the same building? While you’re sipping on your second refill, ask the knowledgeable deli staff for suggestions about which bulk coffees to try, and grab some egg salad for the road. Best Old-School Feel – Pete’s Coffee Shop
Pete’s Coffee Shop has been serving up home fries to early-rising downtown professionals for more than 25 years. With traditional diner fare and those no-nonsense white ceramic coffee mugs, Pete’s promises a satisfyingly no-frills breakfast experience for when you need to get on the road early. Best Commuter Pit-Stop – Cozy Joe’s
Located conveniently off Hardin Valley Road, Cozy Joe’s is a haven of good coffee along a busy commuter route. Grab a few mini-croissant crushers for lunch, get some work done in the coffee loft, or just grab a refill of your favorite Vienna coffee from the drive through. Best Pre-Hike Caffeine Jolt – MoJoe’s Trailside Coffee House at Riversports
Located on the same lot as Knoxville’s popular River Sports Outfitters, MoJoe’s is the ideal place to grab a tall tumbler of dark-roast before making your way into the mountains. Best on the Strip – The Golden Roast
Yes, there’s a Starbucks on Cumberland, too. But if you can brave the parking, The Golden Roast is worth it. This student favorite also happens to be Knoxville’s preeminent coffee roaster (they sell their beans to a number of other local coffee houses), so expect the best. Vienna Coffeehouse
It’s not in Knoxville, but Vienna is the area’s most beloved source of fair trade, organic, shade-grown coffees. Their roastery is in Maryville, and the Clark family has built relationships directly with growers to ensure quality for their customers and fair prices for the farmers. The Bearden Starbucks
The Starbucks at 4924 Kingston Pike in Bearden is the only place in Knoxville that has a Clover Brewing System, which is no surprise, considering that they cost upwards of $10,000. Though it’s more expensive per cup as well, Clover coffee is purported to be more flavorful and more representative of the coffee’s true characteristics.
